Action needed on the influx of Caravans in Glastonbury
Glastonbury has the highest ratio of caravans to homes in the country. Residents are increasingly concerned about the ever growing number of dilapidated and illegally parked caravans and the unprecedented challenges they pose. They are placing unsustainable pressure on our community and public spaces. Residents have had enough.
Despite these growing concerns, both the Green run Glastonbury Town Council and Lib Dem run Somerset Council have failed to act in recent years and provide alternative sites for the caravans. The Enabling Project of the Town Deal was halted due to its proposed placement of a caravan site on the flood plane. They've talked, they've delayed, they've done nothing. The council by-election on 23rd October is a time for change.
As a Town Councillor, Lilli Osborn has been leading local efforts to tackle these issues head-on, calling for action from the PCC and MP, listening to residents and the non-bricks-and-mortar community, and demanding practical, solutions. A vote for Lilli is a vote for a resident who will fight the influx of caravans.
Lilli says: It is a complex situation, but the Lib Dems have repeatedly failed to provide support and alternative living locations for people staying in caravans locally. Ultimately we need affordable and social housing and adequate sites for caravans. I will work to secure new sites (ensuring tent and council tax are payable for services) and more support for those suffering with mental health issues."
