The government is currently consulting on changes to rules that if go ahead could result in the closure of rural post offices.
Changes include ideas such as removing the requirement to provide a minimum of 11,500 branches, reviewing what counts as a Post Office branch. Changes that could impacting many of the towns and village shops with branches that the residents in the Glastonbury and Somerton Constituency rely on.
The proposed changes could -
- Forcing you to travel further to pay your bills, withdraw cash and send letters and parcels
- Severing access to the Post Office for the elderly and rural communities
- Pushing thousands of Post Masters out of work who have served our communities for decades
The formal consultation closes on 6th October and can be found here.
